Simple Poems is a set of five poems by the ancient Chinese poet, Bai Juyi.  

     The set is framed by themes of a lover's ephemeral embrace and the anguish of separation. These bookend poems consist of undulating textures and somewhat intricate rhythms. The central poems are meditations on nature and seasons, with textures and rhythms gradually becoming less active until reaching the core poem that reflects the straightforward style of the poet.
